Bengals are created by crossing a Domestic Shorthair with an Asian Leopard cat. Bengals have inherited quite a few qualities that the Asian Leopard cat possesses, such as a spotted coat, high energy, and love for water.
Bengals are a lean and muscular breed that ranges from medium to large size. On average, bengals typically weigh between 8-15+ lbs and range from 13-16 inches tall.
Bengal cats make amazing family pets. They have a very energetic, but loving personality. They love to play in water, can be harness trained, and are great with other pets/children. Bengal cats are very confident, intelligent, and friendly.
The bengal cats primary colours are: Brown, Silver, and Snow. Some other colours a bengal can be are sepia, blue, charcoal, and melanistic.
The coat patterns can be Spotted or Marbled. A bengals leopard-like spots are called rosettes.
Rosettes can be Arrow-head, Paw-print, or Donut shaped. There are also clouded rosetted bengals that have larger rosettes that fit together similar to the clouded leopard. Not all bengals possess what is called Glitter.
Glitter is a translucent hair shaft that reflects the light to produce a sparkle or glimmer on the coat. Glitter also contributes to the velvety smooth coat that a bengal possesses, unlike any other domestic cat. Truly remarkable.
